History
The Trust was founded in 1997 by four Oxford graduates who had all spent some time in South Africa. They were impressed by the need for the talented youth to have a first class secondary education. Many of their friends are subscribers to the charity and the first fundraising event was a rugby match featuring the 1989 British Lions side captained by Finlay Calder, and an Oxbridge XV team at Oxford in May 1997. Other contributions have been made from marathons run by supporters and social events in London and Oxford.
In 2007 the Trust was very proud to gain Royal Patronage when her Majesty the Queen’s eldest grand child, Peter Phillips, become the charity’s Patron. Peter was officially presented to the supporters of the Trust as the charity’s Patron at reception at St Jamses’ Palace in July 2009.
